THUNDER BAY – The Steelhead Association and the City of Thunder Bay Parks Division have begun work this week on a fish habitat restoration project at George Creek in Centennial Park. The work will cause some detours on popular hiking trails on a temporary basis at Centennial Park.
As work proceeds, the main trail to the logging camp and the entrance bridge over the Current River may be temporarily closed for a few minutes at a time to safely allow transportation of machinery and material to the work site. Flag persons will be directing pedestrian traffic during these times.
It is anticipated that the main trail to the logging camp will remain open for the majority of the construction activity; however, it may be necessary to close the trail when work at the culvert is undertaken. When this trail is closed, a detour will be put in place utilizing alternate trails that start from the chalet and lead to the logging camp.
Work is expected to be complete in approximately two weeks.
