THUNDER BAY – Hot weather, a large crowd, a great charity getting support, and Thunder Bay’s Strongest Man competition was off to a great start. The weather was forecast for rain, but the weather held off with heat and sun. The large crowd of fans and supporters were on hand to cheer on Ontario’s strongest men at the Wayland Hotel. The competitors and spectators were out in strong support of Camp Quality.
Thunder Bay’s Strongest Man for the third straight year is Luke Skaarup!
Thunder Bay is a hotbed of strongman competition. Ontario’s Strongest Man Luke Skaarup is from Thunder Bay.
Dallas Hogan is a crowd favourite. The drug addiction councillor when he is not working out and training is coming off of some injuries and was still powerful in today’s competition. Dallas didn’t get into the top three, which was his goal, but the thoughtful ‘Viking’ took the results with his usual classy style.
The men and the ladies will continue going full tilt tonight at the Wayland, with the arm wrestling competition and Thunder Bay’s best legs.
The move to support Camp Quality this year comes as the campers are starting their annual camp. Event MC and organizer Kateri Scaarup was working with one of the event sponsors, Vince Mirabelli who is a strong supporter for Camp Quality, and the match was seen as a perfect fit.
Fort William First Nation, Rock 94, NetNewsLedger, Molsons, Scaarup Construction, Urban Boutique, and a large number of sponsors were on hand to support the event.
