The airport website has also gone down, massive traffic has caused the server to go down. The SFO Airport is online on their Twitterfeed.

Passenger who have survived have been tweeting, sharing messages with friends and family. Almost 200 of the passengers were able to get themselves safely off the plane under their own power.

About eighty of the passengers have been transported to hospital.

Information has been coming in over the past several hours, right now it appears that the Boeing 777 hit the sea-wall at the airport on the way into landing.

Fears are, based on the unaccounted number of passengers, that the death toll may rise.

There should be an additional news conference from San Francisco later this evening.
