Thunder Bay ChillDES MOINES – Soccer – The undefeated Thunder Bay Chill (6-0-0) scored once in each half and claimed another victory from the Des Moines Menace making the all time record even at 22-22-4.

Set plays have been a huge factor so far in 2013 and tonight was not an exception.  Paul Dillon took a free kick from 45 yards out that found the head of 6’7” Axel Sjoberg who put it over Menace keeper’s Angevine’s head to make the score 1-0 at the 31 minute mark.

The Chill got into Des Moines at 8 am this morning and it showed.  The Chill played a defensive game looking for counters when possible.  The teams battled hard on the field but there weren’t many other good scoring opportunities in the first half.

In the second half Des Moines pressed for the equalizer but couldn’t didn’t get many balls on target.  In the 81st minute the Chill countered and created a pretty three way passing play that ended up with Sunny Omoregie scoring his fourth goal of the season into an open net.

Des Moines continued to press and did hit the post in added time, but that was a close as they came.  Des Moines outshot the Chill 12-9 but both goalies only had to make two saves each as shots on target were rare.  There was one caution to each team with Jimmy Tulloch getting the yellow for Des Moines and Zephania Thomas for the Chill.

Chill head coach Tony Colistro was pleased with the way his players executed his game plan. “As I said before, it is always tough to come into Des Moines and beat the Menace.  We knew they would be coming hard to get the win tonight and we had to defend and look for counters or other opportunities like our set plays to score” said Colistro after the game.

The same two teams play again tomorrow night at 8:30 EDT at Valley Stadium.  The rain and lightening held off enough to get the game in which seemed unlikely to be played just three hours prior to game time when lightening and hard rain were the order of the day.

The Thunder Bay Chill plays in the Premier Development League (PDL) which is comprised of 64 teams throughout North America and is in their 14th season of play.
