THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police were busy over the past twenty four hours. Police responded to over 100 calls for service. There were 43 calls for service on ‘Quality of Life‘ issues, including three drug related calls, 16 disorder calls and 24 alcohol related calls.
In addition police dealt with three sexual assaults, and three assaults.
Crime issues in Thunder Bay
One of the sexual assaults was in the 400 block of George Street. Another was in the 200 Block of Windsor Street. Police report that a common thread to these incidents is alcohol. Yet additional charges for the alcohol related issues are not added to the incident.
Police officers in our city cover a wide range of calls across the city. In Prince Arthurs Landing, police are on mountain bikes to patrol the park. As well the foot patrols in the north and south core downtown areas are engaging well with people and businesses.
The move, long advocated by Mayor Hobbs, and the Thunder Bay Police Association to move to neighbourhood policing has been adopted by Chief JP Lesveque. That move should help police in dealing with neighbourhoods and the issues faced by residents in those areas.
