THUNDER BAY – Flowerbombing the Bank on Victoria Avenue East is ongoing today. The project attracted about ten volunteers and the numbers are continuing to grow. The goal is making spaces in Thunder Bay more people friendly.

Flower Bombing the Bank
Increasingly across Thunder Bay interested groups of residents are out getting their feet wet, their hands dirty and doing the job of taking back spaces in our city that need to be made more public.
The efforts in cleaning up and beautifying Thunder Bay at the ‘grassroots’ level is ongoing. Over on George Street at the Rotary Shelter House the lettuce in the bottle garden is getting close enough for a first harvest. Trimming the lettuce plants can mean a summer of fresh salad.
Work on many of the projects have been ongoing. The beauty to cleaning up areas, especially in the downtown south core is that often the areas stay clean for a long time. Local residents end up taking greater pride in the area.
The clean up efforts are a little taste of citizen activity on the ‘Broken Window Theory’ where keeping an area looking good helps keep crime and social problems in that area down too.
