THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police demonstrated the power of social media on Thursday. The T.B.P.S. unveiled their new website earlier in the spring. The site incorporates more social media, including Facebook and Twitter. During the natural gas leak on the north side of the city, the police were fast and accurate in sharing information with the media and with their social media followers.

The results demonstrate the growing power of social media in Thunder Bay. The efforts of front line officers and administration in getting details out quickly and accurately really helped.

Thunder Bay Police Crime Report

Over the past twenty four hours, Thunder Bay Police were busy with over one hundred calls for service.

Topping the Police Blotter was Quality of Life calls. Police were called into 36 incidents including twenty-four calls for alcohol related issues. There were also six weapons related calls that required action from the police.

Heading into what Environment Canada is sharing will be a warm weekend with perhaps a first taste of summer, it is very likely that Friday and Saturday nights will bring out the worst in people who can not handle alcohol.

It can be assumed that the Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO) will be out in force on the weekend ensuring that licences bars and drinking establishments are following the rules. Doing that ensures that people headed out for a good time can have fun but not end up in trouble.
