THUNDER BAY – Rain or shine, the race will go on! Today’s Fire Fighters Ten Mile Road Race is set to go with a 9:00AM Start. Race organizers are out this morning setting up the start and finish line. Rain is not dampening the enthusiasm of the crew. However hot coffee seems to be a fuel for this morning’s team.

Across the city, despite the weather, there are, so far no reports of major problems from the rain.

Dash for Cash at Fire Fighters Ten Mile Road Race

For racers, the weather is not likely to be bright and sunny, so wet feet might be in order. This year the finish line will be a ‘dash for cash’ as event sponsor Half-Way Motors have put up prize money. New for this year, cash prizes are being offered to the top 10 overall male and female finishers in the 10 Mile provided by Half-Way Motors Nissan. Now there’s added incentive for both elite athletes and top local and regional athletes to strive for a top “10 in the 10 mile” finish in the Ten Mile Road Race.  Spectators will be thrilled by the last-dash heroics of leading cash contenders as they test each other’s speed and stamina down the closing mile.

Across Thunder Bay the rainfall amounts have put a damper on many of the traditional Victoria Day celebrations. Opening of fishing season in the rain is going, but the late and slow spring conditions that produced a record smelts run, have slowed fishing in many places.
