THUNDER BAY – “It will be another jam packed summer at the Park” shares Friends of Chippewa Park President Lorraine Lortie- Krawczuk ,“Confirming why we have, and continue to work so hard to rebuild this park and keep it well used.” The Friends of Chippewa Park have launched the 2013 Summer Season at Chippewa Park with the publishing of a 12 page colour supplement called Highway 61 Revisited…Canadian Style being distributed throughout Northwestern Ontario and along Highway 61 down to Duluth and Superior.
“We are excited to be able to offer Thunder Bay this new way of telling people what’s happening at Chippewa Park and throughout the City this summer” said Lortie-Krawczuk. We are also pleased with the expanded range of activities happening at Chippewa Park this year.”
The Friends of Chippewa Park announced that the Rob McLeod Capital Players will add four Monday night performances to their summer Melodrama entitled “The Moose Meat Cook-off”. This is in addition to their Sunday afternoon and Thursday evening performances throughout July.
The Sundays in the Park concert series is back for another season and it too has been expanded by starting on June 16 and continuing on through until August 25. The first concert will feature the popular Rafiki Youth Choir with a number of their members performing separately.
Tuesday Night Jam Sessions will round out the weekly fare at Chippewa Park with musicians, listeners and dancers convening at the pavilion to listen to a broad range of musical entertainment. The Jam Sessions start on June 11.
Also back is the popular Bill Beavis Family Fun Day on July 14. There is something for everyone in the family at this Sunday afternoon event including, games and entertainment.
One special event is a tree planting day on June 22nd utilizing funds from the Ontario Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund and with the assistance of Trees Thunder Bay and Union Gas employees.
The season opens with the annual Kite Festival on May 26, followed by the Shelter House Relay on June 1st, and Bennie Birch’s 32nd Birthday Party running from June 7th through 9th.
