NetNewsledger.com is continuing our “NASA” evolution. Our “NASA” approach is what we call doing everything live, and in front of you.  Over the past week, the site is migrating from a Joomla CMS to a WordPress cms site. There are several goals in this effort. First is to make the site faster, and let it load faster.

Experts tell us that if you are waiting for over five seconds for a webpage to load, chances are that your mouse finger is already past the point of itching to find another page.

Right now NetNewsledger.com is loading in a fairly fast 0.70 seconds.

We have trimmed several features from the site in making our transition. We have pulled a number of components from the former Joomla site, and are looking for equivilant WordPress widgets.

So far there are positive results from the changes. One is that over the past five days, web traffic has more than tripled. That NetNewsledger.com has tripled in visitor numbers, and is maintaining the speed is encouraging. It also speaks to the server where the site is hosted.

Over the coming weeks, as our live updating continues, we will be adding new features and widgets to the site.

There will be a growing amount of coverage on the local political scene with 2010 being a civic election year.

All in all, it is your readership, and your continued support in terms of messages and news tips that continue to help us become the most widely read news in Northwestern Ontario.

Thank you once again.
