THUNDER BAY – Maybe, just maybe spring is upon us in Thunder Bay. The winter that never ends, appears, at least from today’s forecast from Environment Canada to be on the way out. Thunder Bay and region are in for a few wet days, which are forecast to be followed by some very season weather later in the week.
By Friday, hope for it, temperatures will be in the double digits with a forecast high of 15c.
Now is the time to start a little outdoor spring cleaning. Across the city as winter’s white coat withdraws we are left with the residue of a winter’s worth of trash and litter. If each person were to invest five minutes in picking up five pieces of litter each day, Thunder Bay would soon rival every other city in Canada for the title of cleanest city in the country.
There would be other benefits too. A cleaner city would be a more positive city not only for residents, but for tourists too.
Taking the time to invest in ourselves will help the local economy too. It could even start a process of reducing crime.
Yes, I know, ultimate optimist talking.
Many in our city work very hard to make Thunder Bay a better place. If you missed it on the weekend, a good story to read this morning is how a City Worker helped out a local resident on Friday at the peak of the storm.
Today is also another beginning: The Sachigo Lake walkers arrived in the city last night. Sat down for dinner with the Mayor, and will be at Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School later today. The walkers are not headed to Ottawa, although perhaps they should. Their goal is to raise funds and awareness for the Dennis Franklin Cromarty Student Living Centre. If you can’t join with them today, perhaps you can make a contribution to the fund. Your tax deductible donation can be made by visiting Weecheewaywin Inc.
Tomorrow’s students deserve the opportunity to have the best future and the tools to reach their full potential. You can help achieve that goal.
Will you?
Now, lets get out there and take on the week!
