THUNDER BAY – Weather conditions are impacting Thunder Bay and region. At Sunshine this morning the highway is reported blocked. A sharp-eyed NNL Reader shared the news at 8:45AM this morning.
Weather Conditions
Environment Canada has Snowfall Warnings if effect for the region. A large low pressure system originating from Texas will track towards the Central Great Lakes today. Snow ahead of this system has already begun over northwestern and North Central Ontario. Amounts of 2 to 5 cm are expected today as the snow eases off later this morning and becomes mixed with rain in some locations.
This evening the snow is forecast to reintensify and persist into Friday. Total general snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are expected with up to 25 cm possible over some locales northeast of Lake Superior. In addition, wind gusts to 60 km/h will result in some blowing snow.
Travelling conditions will deteriorate and become hazardous tonight as untreated surfaces become snow covered and slippery. Visibilities may also be reduced in local blowing snow.
Conditions changing
Conditions across the region are likely to change rapidly with the weather conditions impacting travel, and roads.
