MNRKENORA – Crimebeat – A Keewatin man has been fined $750 after pleading guilty to illegally discharging a firearm within a road right of way.

The court heard that on December 14, 2012, Mark Nadeau shot a deer near Clytie Bay Road in Forgie Township. An investigation by Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers determined that Nadeau had discharged his firearm within eight metres of the travelled portion of the roadway.  Forgie is one of a number of townships near Kenora in which it is unlawful to have a loaded firearm within eight metres of the travelled portion of the road. The regulation aims to deter road hunting and trespassing that could result in public safety concerns.

Justice of the Peace Roger McCraw heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kenora, on April 2, 2013.
