THUNDER BAY – The march of technology continues. Confederation College Centre for Applied Media Production officially launched Camptv.ca, a web based radio station today. Students of the Television Broadcast Production program now have the opportunity to broadcast to the world of talk radio, using video streaming and graphic design from the steps of Confederation College.

This new learning resource will enrich the entire media cluster of programs. Students from the Film Production and Multimedia programs will be producing content for the station. As the curriculum develops, both students and faculty will have the opportunity to produce original programming.

A web radio station provides the ability to have video stream and radio broadcasting at the same time.

“This new web radio station is a spectacular addition to Confederation College,” said Gail Murdock, Dean, School of Business, Hospitality & Media Arts. “Many of our Broadcasting graduates have found exciting careers in the radio industry. This facility, combined with the new curriculum, was designed to develop radio skills and position all of our graduates to seek a broader range of careers in media.”

Camptv.ca Offers Radio Unique

Camptv.ca provides our students with a unique opportunity to learn all the aspects of radio programming with a web component,” said Confederation College President, Jim Madder. “We have been working to strategically enhance opportunities for students within our program, and preparing them for employment using new technology.”

On this inaugural day, students had an opportunity to interview local Members of Provincial Parliament, Minister Michael Gravelle and Bill Mauro as well as Mayor Keith Hobbs.

Many of Thunder Bay’s current and past radio personalities, who are also alumni, were on hand to celebrate the launch.

Funding for this initiative was provided by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Check out the web radio station at www.camptv.ca
