THUNDER BAY – Sports – The Thunder Bay Chill U14 Boys enjoyed a perfect Saturday that saw the team win three straight games to win their group, Sunday was not as welcoming as the boys were defeated in the Semi-finals of the Ontario Provincial Championships in Vaughan, Ontario.

The boys completed all 3 games with victories to advance first in Group A that set up the semi-final match Sunday morning against North London. The team allowed only one goal in the round robin group and scored 5 through three games. Brendan Chomut played all the minutes in goal for the Chill and Anthony Valente took care of all the scoring as he netted five. Chomut was picked up for the tournament from the younger age group in the Club. “He played great considering he was younger, made some key stops in every game and still qualifies to play here again next year. I was really proud of him,” stated Head Coach Saverio Lento.

The semi-final game saw the team come out strong, however, had a mental breakdown to let in two goals in the first half. North London’s goals both came in the first half; the first was netted by Patrick Melo after some confusion in front. Later in the half Ethan Gopaul scored North London’s second with a sublime bottom corner finish to give his team some much needed assurance. Although the Chill had opportunities it was just not their day eventually running out of time. North London went on to lose the final 1-0 to Burlington.
