KASHECHEWAN – Vandals have struck at classrooms in the school in Kashechewan Ontario. The remote First Nation in Northern Ontario has seen the classroom damaged. Emma and Julia from Books with no Bounds report, “We just found out from a teacher that one of the schools (Kashechewan First Nation, St. Andrew’s Elementary School) has been vandalized”.

“Here’s what we know… In early December some people broke into the kindergarten portable of the local school and trashed it. The students will not be able to attend school until January 20 … resources in the rooms have been destroyed. A current teacher has set up the Facebook page Kashechewan Kindergarten Resources Fundraiser to help raise money to buy new resources for the classrooms.”

Julia and I have sent this school hundred’s of books and we are preparing boxes right now to send hundreds more… including games, toys, & teacher resources. We will be donating $50.00 from our own Christmas money to their fundraising page!

Kashechewan First Nation is one of the ‘fly-In’ only communities of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation.

Helping out in the North

There are many ways to help. Books with no Bounds founders Julia and Emma Mogus founded Books With No Bounds. The teenagers state, “Because every child deserves access to books, no matter where they live. ‘We are Teen Sisters On A Mission’ to bring books to First Nation Children in remote communities in Ontario. We will provide the neccessary tools to improve literacy skills for Aboriginal Children and teens and show our fellow brothers and sisters to the north we care!”

Wasaya Group

Global Conscience Circle and NetNewsledger.com have gathered a selection of textbooks together for shipment to two northern communities, Kashechewan and Fort Severn to assist Books with no Bounds.

The youthful teens have formed alliances with Wasaya Airways to get books into the far northern communities.
