THUNDER BAY – The Toronto Transit Commision reports that the TTC’s 510 Spadina streetcars will resume operation along Spadina Avenue this Sunday, November 18 following major investment and renewal work. The construction, which began in June, involved track reconstruction at several key locations, modification of the passenger platforms and shelters, and modernization of the overhead power system in preparation for the arrival of the TTC’s new low-floor streetcars.
The new street cars were built in Thunder Bay at the city’s Bombardier manufacturing facility. “The workers at our local Bombardier plant have begun providing the next generation of mass transit vehicles to the G.T.A. We are proud of the work they do and value the economic impact this plant provides to our community,”
stated Bill Mauro, MPP Thunder Bay-Atikokan.
“This is another example of how Ontario’s investment in public transit has the benefit of creating jobs right here in Thunder Bay. It’s great to see another milestone reached with many more to come under current and future contracts,” said Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay – Superior North.
Additional track work will be carried out next summer.
The 510 Spadina streetcar service will turn back at King St. until later this year. Replacement buses will operate between King St. and Queens Quay.
