THUNDER BAY – “Coming on the heels of the completion of the first major expansion project on Highway 11/17 between Thunder Bay and Nipigon, this initiative is another important step in the four-laning of this corridor. With this and future projects, we can confidently look forward to the completion of a new four-laned highway that is vital to our future economic prosperity,” enthused Thunder Bay Superior North MPP Michael Gravelle.

Gravelle says that 450 jobs are being created by four-laning another section of Highway 11/17 between Thunder Bay and Nipigon. Two new lanes will be added from Highway 527 easterly for 13 kilometres, complementing a four-laning project between Hodder Avenue and Highway 527 completed in Sept. 2012. Construction will begin later this year with completion expected in 2015. Another four-laning project is also underway between Mackenzie Station Road and Birch Beach Road.

Once all expansion work is complete, there will be 33 kilometres of four-lane highway from Hodder Avenue to Birch Beach, ensuring safer, more efficient commutes for families and goods along this important section of Highway 11/17.
