THUNDER BAY – Prime Minister Harper, speaking in Hong Kong on Remembrance Day said, ““The Act of Remembrance that we perform today here, or wherever Canadians in uniform serve their country must therefore be something beyond a solemn reminder of dear ones lost. It must call all Canadians to look beyond our sorrow. It asks us to honour in our lives, at all times, what our forebears won by their deaths and to protect and preserve the peace they left us”.
“There is no more that we can do for them than this,” added the Prime Minister. “And there is nothing less that we should attempt. ‘At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.’”
“We are honoured to share this occasion with veterans as you fulfil a silent promise made to fallen comrades. We stand with you in honouring, remembering and supporting all those who have put themselves in harm’s way to protect all of us.” stated Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, speaking at a Remembrance Day ceremony in Toronto.
Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak shared, “Remembrance Day marks the solemn occasion when Canadians gather to honour and pay tribute to those who fought for the liberation of millions around the world and died for our freedom. On behalf of the Ontario PC Caucus, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of the men and women who have bravely served in the Canadian Armed Forces
“Remembrance Day gives us an opportunity to remember those who have worn our country’s uniform and have given the ultimate sacrifice in defence of Canadian values. Their sacrifice for Canada is something that we must never take for granted. The debt we owe is insurmountable,” continued Hudak. “Remembrance Day also allows us to recognize our nation’s proud military history. From Vimy to Dieppe, Korea to Bosnia, Rwanda to Kandahar – during the world’s darkest hours – it was Canadians who answered the call”.
