THUNDER BAY – Canadians will have the opportunity to reflect on an important time in Canadian history when they put the newly designed twenty dollar bill into their wallet. Dubbed the by the foundation, the new bank note features the Canadian National Vimy Memorial which stands as a tribute to all who served their country in battle and particularly to those who gave their lives.
On November 7th, in the presence of the Governor of the Bank of Canada, Mark Carney, the Honourable James Flaherty, Minister of Finance, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, and Mr. David Houghton, President of the Vimy Foundation, the 20 dollar bill entered into circulation during an official ceremony at the Canadian War Museum.
“On behalf of the Vimy Foundation we would like to congratulate the Bank of Canada on the design and launch of the new Canadian twenty dollar bill,” states David Houghton. “With remembrance day around the corner, the timing of this launch is particularly meaningful help keep the legacy alive”.
