THUNDER BAY – CPR Makes You Undead: Free Hands-Only CPR Training – On Saturday, October 27th, a free public CPR Skills & AED Awareness event is taking place at Hammarskjold High School. Registration commences at 9:30 a.m. and training will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. This event is being held in partnership with a Guinness Book of World Records event being hosted at Canada’s Wonderland on October 25th, where approximately 8000 people are expected to learn CPR together (and hopefully break the record for CPR training!)
The goal of Thunder Bay’s training event is to make Thunder Bay Canada’s leader in cardiac arrest survival and bystander engagement. Wherever someone is in need, there will be a bystander able and willing to assist and begin CPR. With about 7000 cardiac arrests every year in Ontario, the need to know CPR has never been more vital. The odds of surviving cardiac arrest can increase to up to 75% when early CPR is used in combination with an AED in the first few minutes.
For every minute that passes without help, a person’s chance of surviving cardiac arrest drops by 7% to 10%.
Many partners have come together to make this event possible including: The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, Northern Hearts, the Northern Cardiac Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, Ornge, Superior North EMS, and the City of Thunder Bay.
