Sioux Lookout Staying Cold and Snowy as March Wraps Up

SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON – March 27, 2025 – Spring may be peeking around the corner elsewhere, but here in Sioux Lookout, it’s still winter’s show. Residents woke up to light snow and a brisk wind, with a few centimetres of snow expected over the next couple of days and clear but frosty nights lingering into early next week. In true Northern Ontario style, the region is keeping things chill — literally.

Today’s Conditions – A Flurry-Flecked Morning Leading to Brighter Skies

At 4:17 AM CDT this morning, conditions at Sioux Lookout Airport showed light snow and a temperature of -5.2°C, with the wind chill making it feel like -11°C. Winds from the north are gusting up to 32 km/h, and humidity is at 72%. The barometric pressure is 102.1 kPa and rising, suggesting some brief stability before the next round of snow moves in.

Through the morning, there’s a 40% chance of flurries, but expect skies to brighten to a mix of sun and cloud by noon. Winds will lighten to around 15 km/h, and the day’s high will reach -3°C, with wind chills hovering around -16°C in the morning and -6°C in the afternoon. It’s one of those days where a little sunshine might fool you — but don’t be tempted to lose the layers.

Looking Ahead – Snow Returns Friday with a Sunny Turn by Sunday

Tonight, skies become cloudy late in the evening, followed by periods of snow overnight with a local accumulation of 2 cm. Winds will shift to the northeast at 20 km/h before morning, and the low drops to -7°C, feeling more like -13°C with the wind chill.

On Friday, more snow is in the forecast, with another 5 cm expected. Winds will strengthen to east at 20 km/h, gusting to 40. It’ll be a cold one, with a high of -3°C, and wind chills between -14°C in the morning and -9°C in the afternoon.

Friday night stays cloudy with a 70% chance of more snow and a low of -9°C.

Saturday remains cloudy with a 40% chance of flurries, but temperatures rise slightly to a high of -1°C. The skies clear up by Saturday night, and so do the temperatures — or rather, they plunge, reaching a low of -16°C.

Sunday finally brings full sunshine and a high of -2°C, with another clear and cold night at -16°C. Monday offers a mix of sun and cloud, a high of -1°C, and a milder (but still sub-zero) low of -13°C overnight.

Bundle Up, Sioux – These Wind Chills Don’t Mess Around

While the weather won’t be as dramatic as southern Ontario’s looming ice storm, Sioux Lookout is still dealing with biting wind chills and steady snowfall. Keep the parka zipped, mittens handy, and boots laced up — especially for those early mornings and late nights when temperatures sink well into the minus teens.

Travel should remain manageable, but freshly fallen snow and flurries could lead to slippery stretches on roads and sidewalks. Slow down and keep your snowbrush handy!

Weather Records and Sioux Snow Tidbits

On this date, Sioux Lookout’s historical high was 12.8°C, set in 1991, while the record low dives to -31.7°C, recorded in 1984. So yes — while it’s cold this week, it’s far from the coldest this region has seen.

Did you know? Sioux Lookout is known as “the Hub of the North” and gets its fair share of extended winter conditions. With clear skies and minimal cloud cover at night, this region experiences rapid overnight cooling — giving it some of the chilliest spring nights in Ontario!
