Property Closed for 90 Days Amid Ongoing Investigation

Alberta Sheriffs shut down an Innisfail drug house after a court order, marking a major win for community safety

INNISFAIL, AB – The Alberta Sheriffs have taken decisive action against a property linked to persistent drug activity, shutting down a residence at 4127 49A Avenue in Innisfail following numerous complaints from residents.

The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit obtained a court order to close the property for 90 days, starting March 11, 2025. The order mandates that all individuals vacate the premises, terminating any leases or tenancy agreements. The property will be boarded up, fenced, and locked, with Sheriffs monitoring it for illegal activity while their investigation continues.

Court Order Extends Until 2027

The Court of King’s Bench granted a community safety order barring anyone from the property until June 9, 2025. Additional restrictions will remain in effect until June 9, 2027, ensuring long-term oversight.

“This is another great example of collaboration between SCAN and the RCMP in keeping Alberta communities safe,” said Mike Ellis, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services. “Shutting down this drug house is a major win for the people of Innisfail.”

Extensive History of Criminal Activity

Authorities responded to ongoing drug and criminal activity at the property, which included:

  • Four SCAN complaints since May 2023, citing heavy foot and vehicle traffic.
  • 53 RCMP visits from February 2022 to July 2024.
  • Three RCMP search warrants executed in 2024, uncovering stolen property, drugs, and paraphernalia.
  • More than 60 additional complaints after SCAN issued a warning letter in July 2024.

“SCAN’s work, in partnership with the RCMP, has made a significant difference in reducing crime,” said Inspector Michael Dirkson. “This closure sends a strong message that illegal activity will not be tolerated.”

SCAN’s Impact Across Alberta

Since its launch in 2008, Alberta’s SCAN unit has investigated over 10,000 properties and issued 131 community safety orders. The unit collaborates with law enforcement to target criminal properties, making neighbourhoods safer.

Public Encouraged to Report Suspicious Activity

Residents concerned about drug activity or crime in their communities can contact SCAN at 1-866-960-SCAN (7226) or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
