Thunder Bay: OPP Seizes $32,000 in Drugs After Two-Month Trafficking Investigation

THUNDER BAY, ON – A two-month investigation by the Thunder Bay Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) has led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of $32,000 worth of illicit drugs.

On March 5, 2025, officers from the OCEB, with support from the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Intelligence Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence in Thunder Bay. The operation resulted in the confiscation of suspected cocaine, oxycodone, methamphetamine, MDMA, hydromorphone, and several other controlled substances, along with Canadian currency.

Individuals Charged

Daniel HERNESHUHTA, 33, of Thunder Bay

Charged under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid (x3)
  • Possession of a Schedule IV Substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order (x4)
  • Possession of an Identity Document

Herneshuhta was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.

Cody DEGAGNE-LUSIGNAN, 31, of Atikokan

Charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – Other Drug

Degagne-Lusignan was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on April 16, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
