Bitter Cold, Blowing Snow, and a Gradual Clearing
Geraldton & Greenstone wake up to a frigid -17°C with wind chills near -30°C. A slow warm-up arrives midweek, with highs reaching 9°C by Friday
The Geraldton and Greenstone region is waking up to an icy -17.3°C this morning under partly cloudy skies.
But with northwest winds at 22 km/h, gusting to 37 km/h, the wind chill is a brutal -28°C—so bundle up! Humidity is at 66%, and visibility is a decent 16 km, but local blowing snow could cause some brief reductions this morning.
The barometric pressure sits at 101.1 kPa, suggesting a period of more stable conditions ahead.
Expect mainly cloudy skies with a 40% chance of flurries early this morning before things clear up this afternoon. However, northwest winds will strengthen to 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h, keeping local blowing snow a concern.
The high will reach -12°C, but with the wind chill, it will feel like -30°C this morning and -20°C by the afternoon. With frostbite risks high, any exposed skin could freeze in minutes, so this is a full winter gear kind of day. The UV index remains low at 2.
Tonight, clear skies will dominate as winds shift to the west at 20 km/h before becoming light. The low will plunge to -23°C, with a wind chill of -21°C this evening and -28°C overnight—another dangerously cold night with a continued frostbite risk.
Midweek: A Slow but Steady Warm-Up
Wednesday starts off cold, with increasing cloud cover early in the morning and a 40% chance of flurries. Light winds up to 15 km/h will help keep the wind chill at a biting -27°C in the morning, but temperatures will improve through the day, reaching a high of -1°C. By the afternoon, the wind chill will ease to -5°C—positively mild compared to the past few days! The UV index remains at 2.
Wednesday night brings cloudy periods with a continued 40% chance of flurries, and temperatures will dip to -7°C.
By Thursday, we finally see a hint of spring. A mix of sun and cloud will push the high to +3°C, the first positive temperature in a while! The night remains partly cloudy with a 30% chance of flurries and a low of -1°C.
Looking Ahead: Spring Makes a Push
Friday will feel much more like March should, with cloudy skies and a 40% chance of rain showers or flurries. The high will climb to a mild 9°C, a huge improvement over today’s deep freeze. However, the night looks wet, with rain expected and a low of +3°C.
What to Wear?
Today and tonight are full-on Arctic survival conditions—thick winter coats, insulated gloves, thermal layers, scarves, and a hat are absolutely necessary. Frostbite is a real threat. By Wednesday, layering will still be key, but the afternoon will be much more manageable. By Thursday and Friday, lighter winter gear or even a warm fall jacket might do the trick as temperatures finally move above freezing.
