22-Year-Old Facing Multiple Firearm and Drug Trafficking Offences

Thunder Bay Police arrest a 22-year-old man on multiple firearm and drug charges following a weapons call

THUNDER BAY – March 10, 2025 – A Thunder Bay man faces a series of weapons and drug-related charges following his arrest in connection with a firearms incident in the city’s 200 block of Amelia Street West.

On the morning of Friday, March 7, Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) Primary Response Officers responded to reports of an individual allegedly seen carrying a firearm. Upon arrival, officers identified a suspect matching the description provided. The suspect attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

A search of the suspect revealed quantities of suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine, leading to additional drug trafficking charges.

Charges Under the Criminal Code of Canada

Darien Bennett METANSININE, 22, has been charged with the following offences:

Firearm and Weapons Charges:

🔹 Assault with a Weapon (Section 267(a))
🔹 Careless Use of a Firearm (Section 86(1))
🔹 Pointing a Firearm (Section 87)
🔹 Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (Section 88)
🔹 Carrying a Concealed Weapon (Section 90)
🔹 Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (Section 91(1))
🔹 Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (Section 92(1))
🔹 Using a Firearm to Commit an Indictable Offence (Section 85(1))
🔹 Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order (Section 117.01(1))

Drug Trafficking Charges:

🔹 Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Section 5(2))
🔹 Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl (x2) (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Section 5(2))

Failure to Comply Charges:

🔹 Failure to Comply with Release Order (x3) (Section 145(5)(a))

The accused appeared in court and has been remanded into custody pending a future court date.
