Thunder Bay – NEWS – The winter weather conditions have caused a number of closures.

Thunder Bay is currently experiencing heavy snowfall, with 15 cm already on the ground and a total snow accumulation of 20-25 cm expected by this afternoon.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect, and snowfall rates of 2-4 cm per hour are causing reduced visibility on roadways.
Road Plowing – Crews have been out since 4 am clearing main roads, including arterial, collector, and transit routes. Residential plowing will begin once priority routes are clear and the snow has stopped.
Sidewalk & Trail Plowing – Crews started at 5 am clearing major sidewalks and trails. Residential sidewalk plowing will begin once priority areas are completed.
Sanding & Salting – Crews started treating roads at 2 am and will continue throughout the day to improve traction.

Trash Collection has been cancelled for today. If today is your regular day your trash will be picked up on Saturday.

Due to the poor road and weather conditions, all in-person classes at Lakehead University have been cancelled today (Fri. Feb. 28). Online classes will continue as scheduled.

The campus remains open.

Transit reports service has resumed.

Stores at ISC may be late opening and some stores may not be able to open today as a result of the weather and transportation challenges. If customers wish, they should call the stores directly to inquire.

The RFDA has closed for the day.

Weather Alert – Changes to Library Programming for Friday February 28

Due to inclement weather, today’s planned programming for children has been adjusted and Play Days will be offered at Waverley, County Park and Mary JL Black all day today in lieu of the originally published schedule. 

Play Days are a great opportunity to drop in to relax and socialize with free play.The Library offers an updated collection of sensory-stimulating toys and interactive books for children to explore. 
📍 All Library locations remain open, but we will continue to monitor conditions.

The Hub on Victoria Ave East is calling it a Snow Day and hope to see you on Saturday.
