Snowy Start with a Chilly Wind Chill

Greater Sudbury sees 5-10 cm of snow today with wind chills near -15°C. Snow tapers off overnight. Cold but brighter days ahead. Stay warm and drive safe!

The Greater Sudbury region is waking up to light snow and a cold -12°C, but thanks to an east-southeast wind at 17 km/h, it feels much colder—a frigid -20°C with the wind chill. Visibility is reduced to 1.6 km, so if you’re heading out, expect snowy roads and limited sightlines. The barometric pressure sits at 101.0 kPa and is falling, signaling that the snowy conditions will continue.

Periods of snow will persist throughout the day, with 5 to 10 cm of accumulation expected. By this afternoon, winds will shift to the south at 20 km/h, nudging the high to -4°C. Despite the slight rise in temperature, it will still feel like -15°C with the wind chill.

Friday night brings cloudy periods with a 40% chance of flurries and a low of -18°C.

The weekend continues the cold but somewhat sunny trend. Saturday will be a mix of sun and cloud with a 30% chance of flurries and a high of -9°C. However, Saturday night is shaping up to be snowy, with a 70% chance of snow and a low of -15°C.

What to Wear: Layer Up Against the Chill

With snow and cold winds, today calls for a warm winter coat, insulated boots, gloves, and a hat. The wind chill makes it feel much colder, so thermal layers and a scarf will keep you comfortable. If you’re out for a while, hand warmers are a great idea!

Did You Know?

Greater Sudbury’s snowiest February day on record was February 20, 1971, when a staggering 41.9 cm of snow fell in just 24 hours! While today’s 5 to 10 cm won’t break any records, it’s still enough to keep those shovels busy!

Stay safe and enjoy the snowy scenery, Sudbury!
