Icy Start to the Morning with Snow Moving In

Toronto sees freezing drizzle and snow this morning, with gusty winds up to 60 km/h and a risk of snow squalls tonight. Chilly weekend ahead with flurries

Toronto wakes up to a chilly -4°C with light freezing drizzle in the air, making for slick roads and sidewalks. The humidity is at 100%, meaning the air is saturated, and with northeast winds at 8 km/h, it feels like -7°C outside. Visibility is down to 4 km, so take it slow if you’re heading out. The barometric pressure is at 100.7 kPa and falling, signaling that active weather is ahead.

As the morning progresses, snow will begin, continuing until the afternoon with accumulations of 2 to 4 cm. There’s also a lingering risk of freezing drizzle, making untreated surfaces extra slippery. By early afternoon, the wind will shift to the southwest at 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h, pushing temperatures up to a high of +2°C. Despite the slight warm-up, the wind chill will make it feel like -11°C this morning before easing slightly later in the day.

Blustery Night with Flurries and Possible Snow Squalls

Tonight, the clouds stick around, and a few flurries will begin near midnight. There’s also a risk of snow squalls developing overnight, bringing bursts of heavy snow and reduced visibility. Expect local blowing snow as well, with winds howling from the southwest at 40 km/h, gusting to 60 km/h, before shifting northwest at 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h by morning. The temperature will drop to -6°C, but with the wind chill, it will feel like -13°C.

Looking Ahead: A Cold but Snowy Weekend

Friday starts with increasing cloudiness and a 30% chance of flurries in the afternoon. Winds will remain brisk from the northwest at 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h, keeping the high at -3°C. The wind chill will be biting, making it feel like -14°C in the morning and -9°C in the afternoon. The night will be clear but cold, dipping to -9°C.

Saturday sees a mix of sun and cloud with a 60% chance of snow and a high of -2°C. By the evening, snow is expected, with temperatures falling to -6°C overnight.

Sunday will be partly cloudy with a 40% chance of flurries and a high of -2°C, while the night brings cloudy periods and a low of -11°C.

What to Wear: Stay Warm and Watch for Ice!

With freezing drizzle and snow, waterproof boots with good grip are a must to avoid slips on icy sidewalks. Layer up with a warm winter coat, hat, gloves, and a scarf, and be prepared for gusty winds in the afternoon.

Did You Know?

Toronto’s snowiest February day on record was February 25, 1965, when a whopping 39.9 cm of snow fell! While today’s 2 to 4 cm won’t come close, it’s still enough to make roads slick—so take your time out there!

Stay safe and keep an eye out for those snow squalls tonight, Toronto!
