Expanded Details on Those Charged in Online Intimate Image Distribution Case
Thunder Bay Cyber Crime Unit arrests 12 in a non-consensual image-sharing case involving 117 victims
THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Police Service Cyber Crime Unit has arrested 12 individuals following an extensive investigation into the non-consensual sharing of intimate images. The accused face a total of 172 charges.
The investigation began in 2023 after police learned that multiple women in Thunder Bay had their images shared in online chat groups. Authorities have since identified 117 victims, including individuals across Canada and in at least three other countries.
As part of the operation, investigators executed 26 production orders, 18 search warrants, and 15 general warrants, resulting in nearly 600 exhibits being seized.
The accused turned themselves in to police on Wednesday, February 5.
