Correctional Service Canada Confirms Death of Shane Kruchak, Serving Manslaughter Sentence

Stony Mountain, Manitoba – January 24, 2025 – Correctional Service Canada (CSC) has confirmed the death of Shane Kruchak, an inmate at Stony Mountain Institution, on January 23, 2025.

Shane Kruchak, formerly of Thunder Bay who was 50-years of age had been serving a 30-month sentence for manslaughter in connection with the December 2021 death of Brian Jacob Wyer, 35.

Wyer succumbed to stab wounds sustained in an incident on May Street South in Thunder Bay.

Kruchak began serving his sentence on December 4, 2024.

His next of kin have been notified.

As per CSC protocol, the circumstances surrounding Kruchak’s death will be reviewed, and both police and the coroner have been notified, as required by CSC policy.
