272 Incidents Addressed, 112 Charges Laid

(THUNDER BAY, ON) The Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 272 incidents between January 20 and January 26, 2025, addressing a wide range of occurrences throughout the region.

Highlights from Weekly Incident Reports

Traffic-Related Incidents:

  • eTickets issued to vehicles: 99
  • R.I.D.E. program stops: 29
  • Traffic complaints: 23
  • Motor vehicle collisions: 18
  • Traffic hazards (debris, animals, pedestrians): 13

Community and Property Matters:

  • Property checks: 18
  • Property-related complaints: 6
  • Animal complaints: 2
  • Domestic disputes: 1
  • Fire-related calls: 1

Other Notable Incidents:

  • Warrants executed: 8
  • Bail violations: 2
  • Drug offences: 1
  • Impaired driving charges: 1
  • Police pursuits: 1

The OPP laid six charges under the Criminal Code and 106 charges under the Highway Traffic Act during this reporting period.

Citizen Self-Reporting Tool Available

The OPP encourages the public to utilize its Citizen Self Reporting (CSR) tool for minor, non-emergency incidents. The online system, introduced in 2014, allows residents to report specific crimes without needing an officer on the scene, saving time for both citizens and police resources.

Reportable Incidents via CSR:

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Mischief or property damage under $5,000
  • Theft from vehicles
  • Lost or missing property under $5,000
  • Stolen license plates
  • Driving complaints

The tool is accessible via opp.ca from any computer or mobile device.
