THUNDER BAY – A detailed investigation by the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) Cyber Crime Unit has resulted in the arrest of a 73-year-old local man on charges of possessing child pornography.

The investigation began in November 2024 after the TBPS received intelligence suggesting that a Thunder Bay internet user had uploaded files containing child sexual abuse material. Following this lead, the Cyber Crime Unit conducted a thorough investigation, which culminated in the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Frederica Street East on the morning of January 15, 2025.

Seized Evidence and Arrest

During the operation, multiple electronic devices were seized for further forensic examination. Ronald Howard Wrigley, 73, was subsequently arrested at the scene.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Wrigley is charged under Section 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada with Possession of Child Pornography, a serious offense that carries penalties of up to:

  • 5 years imprisonment for indictable convictions
  • 6 months imprisonment and/or fines for summary convictions

Wrigley appeared in court on January 15, 2025, where he was remanded into custody. A future court date has been scheduled, but no additional details have been released.
