Snowfall Recap and Ongoing Flurries

The COTB report that Thunder Bay received 5–10 cm of snow overnight, with flurries expected to continue today and into tomorrow. The weather warning remains in effect.

City crews are actively clearing snow and addressing icy conditions to ensure safety across key routes and residential areas.

Road Plowing: Priorities in Progress

City road crews began plowing at 6 AM this morning, focusing on:

  • Arterial Routes (main roads)
  • Collector Routes (secondary streets)
  • Transit Routes (key public transport areas)

Residential street plowing will start once priority routes are completed and snow accumulation stops.

Sidewalks & Trails: Keeping Pedestrians Safe

Clearing of sidewalks and trails also commenced at 6 AM, targeting:

  • Key Arterial and Core Area Sidewalks
  • Trails in High-Traffic Areas

Residential sidewalk clearing will follow after priority routes are finished.

Sanding & Salting: Combatting Slippery Surfaces

Sanding and salting began last night at 9 PM and continued overnight. Crews will maintain focus on:

  • Slippery spots on priority roads
  • Residential streets as needed throughout the week

Stay Safe and Informed

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Use caution while traveling, as conditions may remain slippery in some areas.
  • Avoid parking on streets where plowing is underway to assist crews in their work.

The City of Thunder Bay thanks residents for their patience and cooperation during this winter maintenance effort.
