Thunder Bay Police seize firearms and lay multiple charges against a 41-year-old male after investigation
Thunder Bay, ON – A 41-year-old man is facing an array of serious charges following an investigation into reports of violence at a local residence on Tuesday, January 7. Officers from the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Primary Response Branch responded to the call, leading to the arrest of the suspect by the Provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad outside the Thunder Bay jurisdiction.
Police Seize Firearms and Ammunition
During the investigation, officers executed a search warrant, which resulted in the seizure of two firearms and a quantity of ammunition. These discoveries led to numerous weapons-related charges.
Charges and Potential Penalties
The accused is facing the following charges:
- Assault with a Weapon (x5)
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
- Uttering Threats (x3)
- Using Firearm in the Commission of an Offence (x5)
- Careless Use of a Firearm (x5)
- Pointing a Firearm (x5)
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (x5)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (x2)
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (x2)
If convicted, these charges could result in significant prison time under Canada’s Criminal Code, including mandatory minimum sentences for some firearm-related offences.
Protecting Victims’ Identities
The identity of the accused is being withheld to protect the privacy of the victims. The accused has appeared in court and remains in custody pending a future court date.
