Winter Weather

TORONTO – WEATHER – The City of Toronto wakes up to a winter travel advisory this morning as a band of lake effect snow continues to make its presence felt. With temperatures currently sitting at a chilly -3.5°C, a light snow persists, reducing visibility and making roads slippery. The humidity stands at 96%, and the barometric pressure is falling at 102.1 kPa. Winds blowing from the northeast at 15 km/h bring the wind chill to a frosty -9°C, perfect for staying cozy—or bundling up if you must venture out.

Today: Snow to Ease, But Bundle Up

Flurries at times heavy will lighten to periods of light snow as the morning progresses, with an additional 2–5 cm of snow expected near Lake Ontario. The high will reach -2°C, but the wind chill will keep it feeling like -9°C throughout the day. By evening, light snow will taper off, giving way to partly cloudy skies. Winds will shift to the north, gusting up to 40 km/h before calming later tonight. Temperatures will plummet to -10°C, with a bone-chilling overnight wind chill of -16°C.

Weekend Forecast: A Frosty Prelude to the Holidays

Saturday begins with increasing cloudiness and brisk north winds gusting up to 40 km/h. The high will only reach -7°C, but the wind chill will make it feel closer to -17°C. The UV index is expected to remain low at 1, so no need for shades today! Overnight, skies will clear, and temperatures will drop sharply to -16°C.

Sunday offers a reprieve with sunny skies and a slightly milder high of -5°C, while the night will see clear skies and a low of -11°C.

Early Next Week

Monday brings cloudy conditions with a high of -3°C, transitioning to a 60% chance of flurries overnight with a low of -4°C. Tuesday promises more clouds and another 60% chance of flurries, with the high potentially reaching the freezing mark at 0°C.

What to Wear?

If you’re heading out today, wear layers! A windproof jacket, gloves, and a scarf will keep you warm in the biting wind chill. For the weekend, heavier coats and thermal wear are recommended to combat the sub-zero temperatures.

Toronto Weather Trivia

Did you know that Toronto’s highest recorded temperature on December 20th was a balmy 13.3°C, set in 1949? Conversely, the city shivered through a record low of -22.2°C in 1942. While today’s wintery chill won’t break any records, it’s a good reminder of Toronto’s weather extremes!
