ORILLIA, ON – While Highway 11 has reopened following yesterday’s snowstorm, the OPP and emergency crews are bracing for another round of heavy snow in the Huntsville area.

Crews are working to clear secondary roads off Highway 11, but efforts are hampered by nine tractor-trailers that remain stuck, hindering snow removal and hydro restoration. Houseys Rapids Road, Uffington Road, Southwood Road, Beiers Road, and the northbound ramp at Luigi Road are still closed.

More Snow on the Way

Huntsville is expected to receive significant snowfall between tonight and Friday, prompting the OPP to urge the public to avoid non-essential travel.

Driving Safety Reminder

Even though Highway 11 is open, drivers are reminded to slow down, stay alert, and adjust their driving to the conditions.

Be Prepared

The OPP strongly advises motorists to:

  • Carry an emergency kit: Pack essentials like warm clothing, blankets, food, water, and a flashlight.
  • Ensure sufficient fuel: Keep your gas tank full and your vehicle’s battery charged.
  • Monitor conditions: Stay informed about road closures and weather updates through local media.

If You Get Stranded:

  • Remain calm: Don’t panic.
  • Stay in your vehicle: It’s safer than venturing out on foot.
  • Pool resources: Share warmth, food, and other supplies with fellow motorists.
  • Call for help: In a life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1. For non-emergencies, contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
