(ORILLIA, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews are making concerted efforts to restore normalcy after a powerful winter storm wreaked havoc on communities along Highway 11. Secondary roads off the highway remain closed, with six tractor trailers stranded, hindering snow clearing and hydro restoration.
Affected routes include Houseys Rapids Road, Uffington Road, Southwood Road, and Beiers Road. Additionally, the northbound ramp at Luigi Road remains closed. While Highway 11 has reopened, the OPP advises motorists to drive cautiously and stay updated on conditions through the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) website, 511on.ca.
Aid and Support for Residents
Emergency services are actively delivering food, water, and essential supplies to affected residents. Local warming centers are accommodating individuals in need, and fuel delivery is being prioritized to gas stations impacted by the storm.
Road Safety Guidance for Motorists
The OPP emphasizes preparedness for winter driving:
- Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle.
- Ensure sufficient fuel or battery levels.
- Monitor local media for weather and road updates.
Stranded motorists are urged to stay in their vehicles, conserve resources, and wait for rescuers to arrive.

Efforts continue in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation, road maintenance teams, and snow removal contractors to address current conditions and prepare for any future weather events.
