EDMONTON, Alta. (November 5, 2024) – Ahead of the 2024 Command Tubular PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada National Finals, presented by Edmonton’s Best Hotels, in Edmonton, Alberta, on Nov. 8-9, the organization has announced the 20 riders who will compete for the historic $250,000 prize purse and 2024 PBR Canada Championship inside the state-of-the-art Rogers Place.

A maximum of 360 points are available to one rider via the rounds and aggregate, with an additional 36 maximum ride-score points up for grabs. As a result, the 2024 PBR Canada Championship, and accompanying $100,000 bonus, will come down to a ride-off between No. 1 Cody Coverchuk and No. 2 Nick Tetz who will travel to Edmonton separated by a mere 21.75 points.

Two-time PBR Canada Champion Coverchuk (2018, 2021) is chasing history this season on the hunt for his record-tying third PBR Canada Championship. The Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan native began the season with a bang, winning the first two events, setting an early tone for his season.

Holding the No. 1 rank in Canada for most of the season, Coverchuk was caught by Tetz in the standings after he was sidelined for two months from July-September, recovering from a torn groin. Coverchuk, however, put the bull riding world on notice in his return, going a perfect 3-for-3 to win the Cup Series event in Grande Prairie, Alberta, in late September. Coverchuk concluded the regular-season atop the standings by winning the last event before the Finals in Yorkton, Saskatchewan via a dominant 4-for-4 showing.

Across both the developmental Touring Pro Division and elite Cup Series, Coverchuk has won eight events and 15 rounds, all the while covering a torrid 57.89% (33-for-57) of his draws.

2022 PBR Canada Champion Tetz, however, has delivered a record-setting season of his own, rewriting the PBR Canada history books as he attempts to become the fifth multi-time national title holder in Canada.

Tetz obliterated the season event wins record, riding to 11 victories, leading the Canadian division with most Touring Pro Division victories (8) and Cup Series titles (3). In early October, Tetz also logged the first 90-point ride of the season, teaming with Langham Kid for a monster 90-point ride en route to the victory at the Cup Series’ PBR Medicine Hat Classic.

Tetz concluded the regular season leading PBR Canada in round wins with 16, including a torrid 12 on the Touring Pro Division. The hockey player turned bull rider is also converting at a blazing pace, going 30-for-57, covering 52.63% of his bovine athlete opponents.

While they may not be in contention for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship, the remainder of the field of qualifiers is talent packed.

Alongside Coverchuk and Tetz, fellow PBR Canada Champions Dakota Buttar (2020, 2022) and Aaron Roy (2008, 2010, 20120) have also qualified for the 2024 PBR Canada National Finals, ranked No. 3 and No. 12, respectively. Defending PBR Canada National Finals event winner Tyler Craig will return to Edmonton as he attempts to become just the second rider in history to win the event in consecutive seasons.

The year-end event will also again be headlined by 2012 PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) World Champion Cody Teel. No stranger to competing inside Rogers Place, Teel was part of Team USA that won the debut PBR Global Cup held in Edmonton, Alberta, in Nov. 2017.

As part of PBR Canada’s transcontinental partnership with PBR Australia, Boston Leather and Ben Bode will make their Canadian debut at the National Finals.

Leather’s trip to Canada comes just days after he made history as the first rider to win the PBR Australia Championship and PBR Australia Rookie of the Year honors in the same season. Leather follows in the footsteps of his older brother Macaulie Leather who was invited to the PBR Canada National Finals in 2023 and went a perfect 4-for-4 to tie for second.

The 20 riders who will compete in Edmonton are:

Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan)

Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta)

Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan)

Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta)

Weston Davidson (Strongfield, Saskatchewan)

Chanse Switzer (Hazenmore, Saskatchewan)

Ashton Sahli (Red Deer, Alberta)

Jordan Hansen (Amisk, Alberta)

Gilmar Santana (Ouro Preto, Brazil)

Tyler Craig (Crossfield, Alberta)

Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan)

Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia)

Callum Miller (Warwick, Queensland, Australia)

Tanner Eno (Coronation, Alberta)

Stefan Tonita (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan)

Garrett Green (Meeting Creek, Alberta)

Cody Fraser (Wilmington, South Australia, Australia)

Boston Leather (Calliope, Queensland, Australia)

Ben Bode (Calliope, Queensland, Australia)

Cody Teel (College Station, Texas)

The 2024 PBR Canada National Finals will mark the richest iteration of the year-end event ever held. The two-day event inside the home of the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers will pay out an unprecedented $250,000, including a historic $100,000 bonus to the 2024 PBR Canada Champion, and a minimum of $50,000 guaranteed to the event winner.

The 2024 Command Tubular PBR Canada National Finals, presented by Edmonton’s Best Hotels, will feature four rounds of bull riding. Each rider will get on one bull in Round 1 and Round 2 on Friday and Round 3 on Saturday.

The 12 bull riders with the top combined ride scores will then advance to the championship round on Saturday where they will attempt one final bull in an effort to win the PBR Canada National Finals event and earn crucial points to be crowned the 2024 PBR Canada Champion. During the event Round 2, Round 3 and the championship round will feature a rider drafted draw, while Round 1 will be pre-determined.

PBR also announced the Canadian National Finals bullfighters who will take to the dirt to protect the 20 competing bull riders.

Tanner Byrne, Ty Prescott and Brett Monea will be vigilant throughout each 8-second ride or wreck throughout the week. Of note, in 2019, Byrne earned his first selection to work the PBR Canada National Finals, becoming the first individual to both ride and cowboy protect at the year-end event.

The bull riding action for 2024 Command Tubular PBR Canada National Finals, presented by Edmonton’s Best Hotels, begins at 7:00 p.m. MST on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9 at Rogers Place.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.ca.
