THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead women’s basketball team have announced their final player acquisition for the upcoming season, freshman Sarah Barclay, of Brandon, Manitoba. With the addition of Barclay, the Thunderwolves Women’s Basketball Team has put together a solid recruiting class of six players including PG Emily Lerette of Timberlea, N.S., Guard Helena Steeves of Bedford, N.S., Guard Rachael Bland of Washington, England, Forward Gabrielle Robin of Riverview, N.B., Forward Jessica DeHaan of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Post Sarah Barclay of Brandon, Manitoba.
A 6’4 forward, Barclay rose to high school success with the Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School, averaging 6 points and 6 rebounds per game, 55% from the field and 89% from the stripe. She has also played for the Manitoba provincial team in 2009 (15U) and 2010 (17U), while going to the provincial AAAA High School semi-finals in 2010 and 2011.
She will be pursuing an Engineering degree at Lakehead University.

By going to Lakehead it gives me more years in the sport and the chance to be a part of a hard working program that shares the love for the game at the CIS level. I can’t wait to continue in basketball and in engineering this fall at Lakehead University!”
Adds coach Jon Kreiner, “Sarah is a tall post with good size and experience. She is a very intelligent player with a tremendous passion for basketball and life in general. Sarah comes from tremendous pedigree with her sister winning CIS MVP for volleyball at UBC this past season. I believe with hard work Sarah has the potential to make her own mark in basketball at the CIS level and I look forward to helping her develop at Lakehead University.
