12 active fires remain as the region experiences low fire hazard levels
Thunder Bay – Wildfire Update – As of the evening of October 13, no new wildland fires have been confirmed in the Northwest Region, according to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.
Currently, there are 12 active fires in the region. Three of these are under control, while the remaining nine are being observed.
Fire Hazard Update
The wildland fire hazard is low across most of the Northwest Region. However, there is a moderate hazard zone stretching from the north shore of Lake Superior to the northern end of Wabakimi Provincial Park, with isolated pockets of high hazard within this area.

Outdoor Burning Safety
As the fall season continues, officials remind the public to exercise caution when performing any outdoor burning. Instead of burning yard waste or woody debris, consider composting or utilizing local landfills. If burning is necessary, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations:
- Fires should only be lit two hours before sunset and must be extinguished two hours after sunrise.
- Always have tools and water readily available to control the fire and ensure it is fully extinguished before leaving.

To report a wildfire north of the French and Mattawa rivers, dial 310-FIRE. South of these rivers, call 9-1-1.
