NEW YORK –– Oct. 13, 2024 –– A look at seven statistical highlights from games played during the 9:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET windows on Sunday, October 13, the sixth week of the 2024 season.
- Five rookie quarterbacks started and recorded touchdown passes in Week 6 – Washington’s Jayden Daniels (two touchdown passes), New England’s Drake Maye (three in his first-career start), Denver’s Bo Nix (two), New Orleans’ Spencer Rattler (one in his first-career start) and Chicago’s Caleb Williams (four).The 12 combined touchdown passes by rookies are the most in a single week in the Super Bowl era (excluding 1987), surpassing Week 16, 2019 (11).
With Daniels, Maye, Nix and Williams, this is the second week in NFL history with four rookies each recording at least two touchdown passes, joining Week 14, 2011 (four rookies).
- Chicago rookie quarterback Caleb Williams completed 23 of 29 pass attempts (79.3 percent) for 226 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 56 yards in the Bears’ victory over Jacksonville in London.Williams is the first rookie quarterback selected No. 1 overall to win four of his first six career starts in the common-draft era.
Williams became the fourth rookie quarterback with at least four touchdown passes and 50 rushing yards in a game, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman (Dec. 3, 1989), Robert Griffin III (Nov. 18, 2012) and Deshaun Watson (Oct. 29, 2017).
Williams’ 79.3 completion percentage is the third-highest ever by a rookie quarterback in a game with at least four touchdown passes, trailing only Robert Griffin III (93.3 percent in Week 11, 2012) and Marcus Mariota (86.7 percent in Week 1, 2015).
Williams became the first quarterback with four touchdown passes in a game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the first rookie quarterback with multiple touchdown passes in a regular-season international game.
- The Baltimore Ravens recorded 176 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in their 30-23 victory over Washington, as quarterback Lamar Jackson totaled 363 yards (323 passing, 40 rushing) and running back Derrick Henry rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns in the win.Baltimore’s 1,232 rushing yards this season are the fourth-most rushing yards by a team in its first six games of a season since 1980. Only the 2006 Atlanta Falcons (1,333 rushing yards), 1984 Chicago Bears (1,330) and 1980 Detroit Lions (1,299) have more.
The Ravens are the second team in the Super Bowl era to record at least 150 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in each of its first six games of a season, joining the 1971 Oakland Raiders.
Baltimore has rushed for at least 100 yards in 39 consecutive games, surpassing the 1935-39 Detroit Lions (38 consecutive games) for the third-longest such streak by a team in NFL history. Only the 2018-21 Baltimore Ravens (43 consecutive games) and 1974-77 Pittsburgh Steelers (43) have a longer such streak.
Jackson has 5,661 career rushing yards and surpassed Cam Newton (5,628 rushing yards) for the second-most rushing yards by a quarterback in NFL history. Only Michael Vick (6,109 rushing yards) has more.
Henry has 98 rushing touchdowns in 125 career games, surpassing Adrian Peterson (97 rushing touchdowns) for the fifth-most by a player in his first 125 games in NFL history. Only Pro Football Hall of Famers LaDainian Tomlinson (123 rushing touchdowns), Emmitt Smith (112) and Jim Brown (106) as well as Shaun Alexander (100) have more.
Henry has 25 career games with at least two rushing touchdowns, tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Marcus Allen (25 games), Shaun Alexander (25) and Priest Holmes (25) for the fifth-most games ever with at least two rushing touchdowns. Only Pro Football Hall of Famers LaDainian Tomlinson (38), Emmitt Smith (36) and Jim Brown (27) as well as Adrian Peterson (28) have more.
Today also marked Henry’s 20th career game with at least 100 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, becoming the fourth player in NFL history with 20 such games, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Jim Brown (25 games), LaDainian Tomlinson (25) and Emmitt Smith (21).
Henry has eight rushing touchdowns this season and is the first player since Pro Football Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson in 2005 with a rushing touchdown in each of his team’s first six games of a season. He is also the second player in NFL history to record a rushing touchdown in each of his first six games with a new team, joining Robert Edwards (with New England in 1998).
Henry’s eight rushing touchdowns this season are tied with Billy Kilmer (eight with San Francisco) for the second-most rushing touchdowns ever by a player in his first six games with a team. Only Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson (10 with the Los Angeles Rams) had more.
- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated New Orleans, 51-27, as they totaled 325 passing yards and 277 rushing yards in the victory.Tampa Bay became the fifth team in NFL history with at least 300 passing yards and 275 rushing yards in a game, joining Miami (Week 3, 2023), San Francisco (Week 5, 2012), Dallas (Week 1, 1978) and Green Bay (Week 9, 1962).
With quarterback Baker Mayfield (325 passing yards), wide receiver Chris Godwin (125 receiving yards) and running back Sean Tucker (136 rushing yards), Tampa Bay became the first team since San Francico in Week 14, 2023 to have a 325-yard passer, 125-yard receiver and 125-yard rusher in a game.
- Detroit quarterback Jared Goff recorded 315 passing yards and three touchdown passes with a 153.8 passer rating in the Lions’ 47-9 victory over Dallas.Goff, who had a 155.8 rating in Week 4 prior to Detroit’s bye in Week 5, is the second quarterback in NFL history to record a passer rating of 150-or-higher in back-to-back starts, joining Drew Brees (Weeks 10-11, 2018).
Goff has 27 career games with at least 300 passing yards and a passer rating of 100-or-higher, tying Kirk Cousins (27 games) for the second-most such games by a player in his first nine seasons all-time. Only Patrick Mahomes (28 games, currently in his eighth season) has more.
- Indianapolis quarterback Joe Flacco passed for 189 yards and two touchdowns in Indianapolis’ 20-17 win at Tennessee.Flacco, who had at least two touchdown passes in his final five games of the 2023 season with Cleveland and in his first three games with Indianapolis in 2024, is the fourth quarterback in NFL history with eight consecutive games with two-or-more touchdown passes at age 38 or older, joining Tom Brady (nine consecutive games in 2015 and nine from 2020-21) and Pro Football Hall of Famers Peyton Manning (nine in 2014) and Warren Moon (eight in 1995).
