Winnipeg Homicide: Man Arrested After Fatal Assault

Winnipeg, MB – A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder following a fatal assault in Winnipeg’s Central District.

On September 22nd, 2024, at around 1:15 PM, police responded to a report of an assault in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue. Upon arrival, they found an unconscious woman in the common area of an apartment building, suffering from serious injuries. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries.

The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Lucy WOOD of Winnipeg. Her family has been notified.

With assistance from the Tactical Support Team, officers located and arrested a man within the building.

Jules DESJARLAIS, 20, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Assault x 2
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm

He has been detained in custody.
