Wildfire Update: Northwest Fire Region Reports Stable Conditions, No New Fires

DRYDEN – Wildfire Update – No new wildfires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by late afternoon on September 17, 2024.

As of this update, there are 27 active fires in the region:

  • 2 are under control
  • 25 are being observed
  • 2 fires were declared out within the last 24 hours

The fire hazard remains low across most of the Northwest Region. However, moderate to high fire hazards persist in the Thunder Bay area, along the Superior north shore, and in parts of the far north.

Outdoor Burning Regulations Reminder
As fall approaches, the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services team reminds residents to exercise caution when burning outdoors. Consider composting or using local landfills for yard waste and debris. If burning is necessary, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations.

  • Fires should be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and extinguished two hours after sunrise.
  • Ensure you have adequate tools and water to contain the fire at the site.

  • For fires north of the French and Mattawa rivers, dial 310-FIRE.
  • For fires south of the French and Mattawa rivers, dial 9-1-1.
