Vehicle Search Uncovers Drugs Near Marathon
MARATHON, ON – A routine response to a vehicle stuck on a bush road off Highway 17 has led to a major drug bust in Marathon. On September 16th, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., officers from the Marathon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to assist with the vehicle. During interactions with the driver and passengers, a search of the vehicle revealed suspected cocaine and methamphetamine pills, prompting further investigation.
Police Execute Search Warrant, Seize Large Quantities of Narcotics
Following the vehicle search, the Marathon OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) became involved. A few hours later, at approximately 2:41 a.m. on September 17th, officers from the Marathon OPP Detachment and the CSCU executed search warrants at two residences within the Township of Marathon. The search resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of illegal drugs, including:
- 320 methamphetamine pills
- 1,110 speed pills
- 18 grams of heroin
- Over two pounds of cocaine
- $995 in Canadian currency
Three Marathon Residents Arrested in Drug Trafficking Investigation
As a result of this investigation, three Marathon residents were arrested and charged with various drug trafficking offences.
- Daniel Albert Aube, 54, was charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
- Rosalie McGrath, 33, faced similar charges for possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for trafficking.
- Kevina Mulrooney, 35, was charged with multiple offences, including possession of heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine for trafficking, as well as possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The first two accused were held in custody for a bail hearing on September 17th, while the third was released with a court date scheduled for October 16th, 2024.
