Weapons Incident Leads to Multiple Charges and Firearm Seizure
SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Sioux Lookout have made a third arrest and recovered a restricted firearm as part of an active investigation into a weapons-related disturbance in the community. The OPP, alongside specialized units including the Northwest Region Crime Unit, Major Case Investigations Team, Forensic Identification Services, Community Street Crime Unit, and the Regional Support Team, are continuing to investigate the incident.
The investigation began on August 16, 2024, when officers responded to a disturbance involving weapons on Millar Crescent.
On the evening of September 6, 2024, Sioux Lookout OPP were called to remove unwanted individuals from a residence on King Street. During the response, officers arrested 23-year-old Travarn Atkinson from Brampton, ON, who was wanted in connection with the ongoing investigation. A restricted firearm was recovered at the scene.
Atkinson has been charged with several serious offences, including:
- Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Restricted Firearm (two counts)
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Discharge a Firearm into or at a Place in a Reckless Manner
Atkinson remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on September 11, 2024.
