Today’s Weather: August 16, 2024

SASKATOON – WEATHER – Saskatoon is under a blanket of smoke today due to nearby wildfires, leading to significantly reduced air quality. The city will see widespread smoke throughout the day, with temperatures reaching a high of 26°C. The smoke is expected to persist, so those with respiratory issues should take precautions.

The wind will be from the north at 20 km/h, which, while light, won’t do much to clear the air.

The smoke will remain into the evening, with temperatures dropping to a low of 13°C. It’s advisable to keep windows closed and avoid outdoor activities, particularly strenuous ones.

The Weekend Outlook: August 17-18, 2024

Saturday brings a cloudy day with a 60% chance of showers and a cooler high of 22°C. The rain might help to clear the air a bit. Sunday looks much brighter with sunny skies and a high of 29°C, providing a break from the smoky conditions.

Weather Trivia

Did you know that Saskatoon once reached a scorching 38.6°C on August 7th in 1997? Today’s conditions are far less extreme, but the persistent smoke adds a different kind of challenge.

What to Wear

Today, it’s best to wear lightweight clothing but consider a mask if you need to go outside due to the smoke. Keep your outdoor time brief and stay hydrated.
