THUNDER BAY – In February 2012, North Superior Workforce Planning Board released a Custom Labour Market Report- Thunder Bay District Mining. This study was the result of a cutting edge partnership between North Superior Workforce Planning Board and Mining Industry Human Resources Council and produced the first sub-provincial forecast for the mining industry.
This report has now become a proactive example and has set the stage for other planning boards within Northern Ontario such as Far Northeast Training Board, Northwest Training and Adjustment Board, the Labour Market Group, Sudbury & Manitoulin Workforce Planning and the Algoma Workforce Investment Committee who will be doing the same report for each of their areas.

NSWPB is proud to have paved the way for bringing the mining demand into focus for the region so that we may ready and supply the workforce to meet that demand”.

Creating jobs and strengthening the economy is the top priority of the McGuinty government,” stated Glen Murray, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.
This report will summarize 2, 5 and 10 year forecasts in each of the board’s local mining industry. Research will be taking place simultaneously in all of the districts across Northern Ontario and will complement the research already completed in the Thunder Bay District. Their research will be modeled on the project completed by North Superior Workforce Planning Board which can be found on our website at www.nswpb.ca
This initiative is part of a $200,775 project to review the training needs and hiring requirements of the mining industry throughout the North. The Ontario government is contributing $85,375 to the project.
