Sioux Lookout – On Friday, August 2, 2024, the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a 21-year-old individual for breaching a Prohibition Order Regarding Children.

Police were dispatched to the Town Beach around 6:00 p.m. following reports of multiple intoxicated individuals. Upon their arrival, one person fled the scene in an attempt to evade officers. The investigation revealed that the individual was subject to a court-imposed Prohibition Order, barring them from attending public parks or swimming areas where children under 16 years old were likely to be present.

As a result, Matthew OGEMAWENENE of North Caribou Lake First Nation was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with Failure to Comply with a Prohibition Order Regarding Children. OGEMAWENENE was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice Kenora Bail Court on August 7, 2024.

Prohibition Orders Regarding Children are court mandates designed to protect minors from potential harm by restricting the activities of individuals convicted of specific offenses involving those under 16. Violating these orders can result in serious legal consequences, including imprisonment or fines, ensuring the safety of the community and holding offenders accountable for their actions.
