Understanding Stunt Driving and Its Impact

Stunt driving in Ontario is a serious offense, defined by actions such as excessive speeding (50 km/h or more over the posted limit), street racing, and other dangerous driving behaviors. The consequences are severe and include immediate penalties such as license suspensions, vehicle impoundment, and hefty fines.

Beyond these immediate legal repercussions, being convicted of stunt driving has long-term effects, particularly on vehicle insurance. Insurers view stunt driving as a high-risk behavior, often resulting in significant increases in premiums. In some cases, drivers may even be denied coverage altogether or be placed in high-risk insurance pools with drastically higher rates.

The OPP remains committed to removing both impaired and aggressive drivers from Ontario’s roads. The public is urged to report any instances of unsafe driving by calling 9-1-1.
